Out Late, Traveling with Charlie. Sort of...

Went out late, this afternoon, to see if the bins that I'd bought four decades ago were still available. They're not. I actually have two different sizes and wanted to changes the ratio of the two sizes to favor the longer bins and also improve the look of the display. But given that I at least have sufficient bins to fill my shelving units, it's not a major concern.

What I did find was a cheapo wooden stool, which I figured I'd need for any extended or close-up work at the shop tables. I was actually hoping to find a metal one with adjustable legs but this one will work, at 1/3 the cost--which I need to be conscious of after buying "Sophia's craft tools"--and its natural finish looks good with the unfinished wood of the tables.

By the afternoon, I had about 2/3 of the bins washed, dried, and on the shelves, so that's progress. I plan on finishing the rest tomorrow and maybe putting into them some of the hardware that's scattered throughout the basement and is currently impossible to locate when I need it.

Also got a bit of my Steinbeck bio read--I'm finally 50 pages in--and am still considering taking a break from book club this month. If I decide to do that, I'm definitely gonna order the movie and book versions of Cannery Row and probably a couple of others. Which is what I used to do, years ago, when I was trying to make up for perceived deficiencies in my undergrad program, especially with respect to the modern and post-modern eras of American lit.

LOL, yes, I agree about the "hands-on" part of organizing sort of "soothing the savage breast," but of course I have to carry on a bit about it for the story-telling drama. But in the end it does bring a bit of focus, to the scattered mind and emotions as well as to the work bench.

And you're right about the bonding with the kids, too. I hadn't realized the extent to which that was happening with my granddaughters and what a calming effect that has as well. Maybe because I'd been so exclusively focused on my grandson for so long and the fact that his entry into the teen years has brought some anxiety over his choices along with a sense of loss.

I am VERY glad to hear about the nephew you encouraged about the running--it's so beneficial in so many ways--and glad also that his parents are now able to be supportive...
