A Really Cool Name
Dec. 22nd, 2018 09:43 pmYou'd never know, by looking at my house, my car, or any of my projects, that I'm one of those people who has a very definite sense of what's "just right." Or, unless you were unfortunate enough to live with me, that it bothers the hell out of me when that exacting standard is not met.
I mention this because today marked the completion of a project that has gone through several iterations and has consequently taken forever to complete. And because it turned out just the way I wanted it, right down to the name of the paint I'd gotten to finish it with, "Frontier Brown." Perfect!
Earlier in the day, my grandson had texted me to ask if I'd be able to give him a ride home this evening, from his BFF's house, and I said yes. A few hours later, he texted to ask if I could come right now. And once again I said yes, this time on the condition that he help me to set up my completed project.
Which, of course, he agreed to. What else was he gonna do? It's a long walk home from his friend's house, lol.
So, after I'd picked him up and we were back at my place, I had him take one side of my completed airgun cocking platform and we eased it off the sawhorses where I'd painted the wooden parts of it the aforementioned "Frontier Brown," and moved it into place at one end of the small airgun range I have in my basement.
Then I went upstairs and retrieved the nitro-piston air rifle, which had necessitated this project, and tried it out.
And it worked. It looks good, it's finished with a paint that has a cool name, and it works. Almost perfectly.
The one tiny flaw is that the liner, into which you insert the barrel, sometimes pulls out with the gun. I didn't really have that problem, but my grandson did and I want it to work flawlessly for whomever might be using it.
But it's a relatively small issue, one that I can take some time to think about and find the perfect answer for.
Because for now it looks good, it works for me, and it has a finish with a really cool name...
