It was windy and chilly but dry in Central New York today and I was once again fortunate enough to be able to do my two rides outdoors.

Last night, I went to the Home Depot for hose ends to fit up a 6-foot length of garden hose to use at the side of the house when I need to wash down the bike. And they didn't have any, once they figured out what it was that I wanted.

I mean, I feel bad for them. But where do they get these kids? I know that, for some of them, this might be their first job. But then again, they didn't look like high school kids, either.

I guess I need to reflect, for a minute, on the very real and substantial differences in peoples' life experiences. I mean, I wasn't rude or anything, but.

On the other hand, I got the feeling that, behind her mask, the one girl thought it was actually funny that they didn't have what I was looking for. Which probably doesn't bode well for her future in customer service.

And so I went to Lowe's, where they actually had a decent selection, and got exactly what I wanted. Which may well influence my thinking about where to go the next time I need something for the house or my shop.

Anyway, I got the hose fixed and now I won't have to drag a 20' garden hose up and down the basement stairs the next time I want to hose off the bike out in the driveway.

I started my evening ride a bit later than I'd actually wanted to. A few weeks ago, it would've been fine, but today it was overcast, we're losing daylight earlier, and late afternoon is a peak traffic time near the house and down on West Genesee.

So I turned on the flashing head and taillights, flipped on the computer--which I sometimes forget, and went for it.

It's amazing how much difference the additional clothing makes in this weather. Not just in weight, but in wind resistance.

The thing is, I was never a Lycra Spandex kinda guy to start with, lol, but for this current iteration of my cycling career I've not bothered to paw through the bag of clothing saved from 25 or so years ago, opting instead to simply adapt whatever's at hand.

Which, for the most part, is athletic wear--but there is a difference. So, if I'm gonna do this for much longer this year, I'm probably gonna have to sort through those leftovers from back in the day.

As I've probably said, any day that I can ride outdoors twice and do my workout is a good day. I hope everyone else's was good too...
