Veering Towards the Combine
Oct. 26th, 2020 09:49 amLooks like it's gonna be a "ride inside" kinda day. With the chance of rain at 90% in the daily forecast, and the lowest chance at 50% during the morning hours... it's raining. This morning. And since that goes up to 80%, and stays there for the rest of the day... you get the idea.
I'm about 3/4 of the way through Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and will likely finish it today or tomorrow. I wasn't sure that I'd finish it at all because it's not the sort of book that makes us feel very good about how we interact as human beings.
And it also raised the spectre, very vividly, of "The Combine" and our interactions with it. Which is especially scary given that, despite his daily attempts at misdirection, we've come to know that Donald J. Trump is, himself, The Combine and is working tirelessly, relentlessly, to pull us into the black hole of his reality, of its existance.
At this moment, I may be up to finishing Kesey's book. But I can't seem to endure any more than about 5 minutes of the nightly news. It's just too much of that alternate reality, too vivid a picture of how our lives have veered towards it, towards The Combine...
