KN-95 Day

Today I wore my KN-95 mask into the local Wegman's supermarket which was probably the first place I'd gone without one after receiving my second shot of the Moderna vaccine.

I wore it this time out of solidarity with those who are immunocompromised, are not yet eligible for the vaccine (mostly the kiddos), or who are, like myself, concerned about what the next wave of this pandemic is going to do within our mixed population of vaccinated and unvaccinated citizens.

To be sure, I'm not the altruist that our friend Patrizia is, because I'm undeniably driven by a degree of self-interest in this. But I do hope to provide at least a momentary reflection, of the kind of model she is, in some passing stranger's eyes.

And I will also be carrying my vaccination card, hanging from a lanyard around my neck, as a reminder to myself of the duty we have to ourselves, our families, and our fellow countrymen.

This is also, in its way, my tribute to the World War II generation which raised me and taught me the values which I believe will be necessary for us to embrace if we are to survive.

That said, I wish everyone a safe and peaceful conclusion to their day...
