We're Going!
May. 23rd, 2022 11:43 pmWhen my oldest grandson was little--almost 20 years ago--he and I used to listen to various rock albums I'd collected during the '60s and '70s.
(During those decades, I fancied myself as something of an audiophile, having built a Heathkit stereo amp with an output of, I think, 250 watts RMS per channel. I matched that with a pair of small but efficient Dynaco A-25 speakers on stands that I'd cut and welded during my lunch hours at University Toyota, and a Garard manual turntable.)
My collection consisted of about 150 33-1/3 vinyl albums of varying genres which represented my half of the collection I'd split with my ex-wife when we divorced. She also got the car, a 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 with the small-block V-8 and automatic transmission. Which might be worth something today, but I'd still rather have had the other half of the record collection.
(Full disclosure compels me to mention, however, that my son--the grandson's father--eventually stole the albums and likely sold them for drugs, so I guess it's just as well that I didn't get them all in the divorce.)
Anyway, among my grandson's favorites were The Beatles. Mine too, to be honest. And after the vinyls were "lost," I gifted him with several of the albums on CDs, including the incredible Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Then, this afternoon, as we were finishing the yardwork, he happened to mention that Paul McCartney was slated to play at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse sometime in the next couple of months.
Turns out that the date is Saturday, June 4th and when I asked him if he thought we should try to get tickets, he said YES!
And so tonight, he and his sister came back over and we sorted through available seating and bought our tickets. We managed to score a pair on ground level which put us in more-or-less the same room as the venerable Sir Paul without totally breaking the bank. (There were some that listed at over $2K.)
Now all I've gotta do is figure out how to pay for parking and how to connect with the shuttle service to get us from there to the Dome.
But, yeah, we're going...
