Some notes on Veterans Day...
Nov. 11th, 2008 03:03 pmwhich was originally called Armistice Day in commemeration of the agreement ending World War I on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918.
Remembered here with a recitation and brief explication of Hardy's poem "Drummer Hodge" as seen in The History Boys. The poem itself predates the Armistice, but the discussion following its recitation sheds an interesting light on such observances.
