It's mid-August and, over the past week, we've finally gotten our first real taste of summer. Having bought an Empire Passport to take Little Jay to the beach, we've since had maybe one decent day in any given week to do so. On several occasions, we've settled for warm but overcast. On several others, there's been a shower or thunderstorm threatening as we've rushed off the beach to go home.

Anyway, I'm hoping for a few more really good ones before the start of school. I'll also be lobbying for the participation of others in the family, especially his dad, so that we have some company. Not surprisingly, given the isolation he's experienced over his lifetime, the little boy's not terribly good at engaging casual playmates. As I mentioned to him last week, we're gonna have to work on making some friends for him over the coming school year.

For now, though, he's more confident about doing that when he has some familiar faces around him and is feeling more comfortable about the place. A few more sunny days, should they come our way, shouldn't hurt those possibilities...

Could they be 85, and not 95, please?

yeah, for sure. there's a retaining wall 50-60 feet back from the water at verona beach. and if you get there early enough to get a spot next to it, it provides some shade into the afternoon. that's where i'm gonna try to set up. hope your day goes well...
