Suze Rotolo became Bob Dylan's live-in girlfriend soon after he arrived on the New York scene in the early 1960s. More importantly, she's said to be the person responsible for instilling the social conscience in the young singer/songwriter's lyrics.

She's also the girl pictured with him on that iconic cover of Dylan's Freewheelin' album and the real-life inspiration for such songs as "Tomorrow is a Long Time," "Boots of Spanish Leather," and "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright."

Suze Rotolo was a teacher, artist, and social activist, a life-long resident of Manhatten whose memoir, A Freewheelin' Time: A Memoir of Greenwich Village in the Sixties, was published in 2009.

Suze Rotolo died earlier this week, following a long illness, at the age of sixty-seven.
