This One Thing

I keep hoping that like some great, slow ship, turning somewhere in the endless night, my son and his ex- will eventually find the maturity to put first in their lives the one they brought into ours.
To realize that they don't necessarily have to be together, except--for an absolute certainty and for the rest of their lives--in this one thing...

Grandchildren are the future we are trying to protect or redeem.
We have no control. I find solace in prayer - surely God has the power to influence.
After all, we get to spend some time with the future, hopefully providing a better choice, if not a different choice.

Date: 2006-02-03 04:09 am (UTC)still, i'd have to say that, when the parents were together, it was a little easier to feel that it was a privilege instead of a necessity. despite having felt put upon by their inconsideration.
i'm guessing there might be a lesson in that.
