Near the Tent

thisnewdayBecause of the turns that my own life has taken lately, I think that I understand Hemingway better.
There was never the talent and there will never be the books or the poems or the years in Paris, for me. Nevertheless, up ahead is the flattened summit of Kilimanjaro and the frozen carcass of a leopard, whose presence there will never be explained.
But also, lurking in the shadows near the tent, in his white suit and tie, is the diminuitive Herve Villechaize yelling, "Thee plane, Boss, thee plane!"
And it was because Ernest never saw him that things got like they did, at the end...
