Postscript to the News
Jul. 18th, 2012 06:12 pmToday I've had a record number of my comments expunged from the pages of Syracuse.com. I'm usually fairly moderate in my social and political views and temperate in my language. I do occasionally lapse into verbal horseplay or season my comments with a bit of sarcasm.
But as a number of its regular readers and contributors have lately been insisting, management of readers' comments has gone from capricious and arbitrary to completely non-sensical.
Finally, fed up with it all, I responded as follows to a reader who had asked, basically, WTF standards had been referenced in deleting his comment.
"Standards? You're looking for standards? A week ago, I speculated that maybe a summer intern was doing this. As of today, I'm convinced that it's Douglass Dowty's Trunk Monkey." (D.D. is an often-disparaged Post-Standard staff writer.)
And, yup, they deleted that one too. At least I don't have to wonder why...
