Both of the twins are now home with their mom and dad and both have gained substantial weight although they're still tiny compared to full-term, single infants. Amelia has gone from a birth-weight of 4 lbs. 5 ozs. to 4 lbs. 15 ozs. and Layla left the NIC-U at 3 lbs. 15 ozs., up from her birth weight of 3 lbs. 7 ozs.
Unfortunately, the morning before Layla was to be discharged the NIC-U ran out of mama's milk and substituted formula and it absolutely wreaked havoc with her poor little digestive system. She had terrible gas pains the rest of her first day at home and on into the evening. By the next day, she was obviously doing better and seemed to be adjusting to her new environment as well.
On Friday, the girls had their first shared appointment with the visiting nurse and on Monday I'll be taking them, and their poor, tired mommy, for their first shared appointment at the pediatrician's office. Hopefully we'll hear that they're both doing as well as they appear to be.
After that, well, I'm trying to decide what I might be able to do for my daughter, aside from running errands, driving to appointments, and the occasional visit. I'm not sure why, but I definitely feel some apprehension about this.
I do know that I have to carefully consider whatever I might offer to do in light of the huge responsibility it entails. So, yeah, I'll be thinkin'...
