This Doubt

Did something in this world, or something just beyond it, come to believe that, having endured with her those endless weeks in the hospital, I couldn't have continued on, helped her through recovery, undeterred, to whatever life was destined to be ours? Or even, hers alone?
I don't want to believe that; such doubts may be the only thing that I truly can't live with...
