So the lake effect has been falling, light but steady, all morning and, since it's now almost noon, I'm thiking about getting dressed and going outside to shovel. I mean, I don't wanna rush things, you know, lol.

The plow service was apparently here, at sometime in the early morning. And, no, I don't mean sometime after 10 AM. Please, I'm not that shiftless, unfocused, lazy. Yet.

My plan is to back the car out towards the road, push off the snow, and, while it's idling out there, shovel the area around where it was parked overnight. Then the steps at the side entrance, the front walk, etc.

Not much to it, really. What I really need to be thinking about is the house in the city. Most area schools are closed today--what a bunch of wusses, why, when I was in school, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah--but may be in session tomorrow.

And, even though many of my former neighbors don't bother to shovel, I don't want kids walking out in the slippery road because of my negligence. So, maybe a little later, a trip over there.

Besides, I'm one of those guys whose life decisions are driven by excitement over new tools and I've got that brand new shovel leaning against the house just begging to be used to jack up my back.

Just don't tell my daughter that I said that because she'll give me "The Look."

And that, as any father of a driven young wife-mother-multi-career-woman will tell you, can be more disturbing than the most painful back spasm, lol...

Round Two

The skies cleared and it was sunny for a while during the midday, as I think was predicted. And in that time, I did get into the city to do the sidewalks, stairs, etc., of our former home.

Now I'm back in the 'burbs and it's clouding over, probably for our second round of lake effect snow. The driveway was plowed for a second time, while I was gone and, without the car in the way, the full length of it was done, so I'm in good shape there.

Every time I have to do something like this, I'm glad that, with a few lapses, I've been able to keep up on my fitness program. Like the days when I was bicycle commuting 10 miles to work and back each day, I know it won't be this way forever.

But for now, as then, I'm grateful for what I have, for what I'm still able to do for myself and, occasionally, for others.

And so I'll keep on and hope that this run is long enough that I'll get to see at least my older grandkids well started with their own lives...
