Up early, today, because the grandson has a make-up basketball game for his middle school team. Had actually intended to sleep until 7 but was awake at 5:30 so just stayed up.
Had gotten interested in the respective dance careers of "Dance Moms'" star Maddie Ziegler and internet sensation and sometime DM guest Caitlin "Kaycee" Rice. Interesting stuff if you've ever had kids who danced competitively, which two of mine did. And so I checked out a couple of YouTube videos which purported to feature competitive "dance-offs" between the two stars.
But now that I'm within 15 minutes of the planned start of my day, I've gotta get ready to hit the road. Picking the kid up at 8:45 for the relatively short hop to the middle school where he'll board the team bus for departure at 9:15.
It would've actually made more sense for him to stay here overnight, since the school where they're playing is basically around the corner from me, but that didn't occur to either of us and probably wouldn't have been his preference anyway. But I'll probably drive him home after the game, rather than have him ride the team bus back to the school which is well beyond where he lives.
Sometimes it's hard to fathom why things have worked out this way, but I guess that's how it is when kids start making their own decisions about where and how their lives will be lived.
And I guess I'm OK with that, as long as I only have to deal with an occasional disappointment for myself and not with a protracted sorrow over the way that life has turned out for him...
