Woo-Hoo!

Got my little Stagg pocket B-flat trumpet out for the first time since the dental and abdominal surgeries seemed to have well and fully healed and it was, well, not amazing in terms of performance, lol, but fun, interesting, quite exciting, even, just to have done it.

So I wiped her down a bit, oiled the valves, checked the tuning slide, and went looking in my computer files for the Brian Hayes lip buzzing exercises and then the more extended series of lessons I'd been using all those months ago. You know, before the surgeries.

And even though it'd been many months since I'd last practiced them, it really wasn't like I was starting all over again. At least not like when I first got the Stagg.

I seem to remember where the notes are, seem able to hit them on key with the video clips. Not like before when I was totally lost and, when I finally found the note, couldn't sustain it.

So tomorrow, I'm gonna do this again in the AM, right after breakfast and my oral hygiene and, lol, putting my dentures in, hopefully making it part of my daily routine.

Which I'm gonna need, now that the weather seems to be closing in and the bike will likely be ridden indoors more often than not and the political storm clouds continue to gather as well on the horizon.

My best to everyone...

Raining

It's raining, this AM, which is why I jumped from my normal get-dressed-and-ride routine and picked up the little horn instead.

I'm thinking that, once the weather changes for good, this is what I'll be doing.

First the horn and then the longer session that I've written for the bike/mag trainer and then my workout.

With lunch between the bike and the workout.

Because I've always needed routine, something I could look forward to, something I could depend upon.

And because, you know, there's so little else these days.

Again, as always, my best to everyone...

4 Tries

It took me four tries to finally get through the routine I'd written to use on the mag trainer.

First try, wrong routine. Too hard to follow with 2-minute duration at each of the 3 peaks. That was the 28-minute routine, so I ran up to the office and pulled up the 25-minute one which uses a consistent 1-minute duration on each step.

Second try, forgot to reset the countdown timer for 25 instead of 28 minutes. Duh.

Third try, sweating my a$$ off because I'd forgotten to start the fan.

Even though the outside temp had dropped precipitously with the light rain that's been falling, off and on, since mid-morning, the still air inside an enclosed basement is stifling compared to riding through the outside air. So I got off and started it.

Fourth try, don't even remember. Maybe it was when I adjusted the seat height which I'd been thinking about doing for my road riding as well. I dunno.

Anyway, finally got through it and think it will work. I know it won't be the same as the road rides, which I love, but it'll do something different for me as far as conditioning.

But mostly, it'll keep me somewhat ready for when the road opens back up in the spring...
