Another wretched night when, having gotten up at 3 AM to use the bathroom, I could NOT fall back asleep. Finally, I got back up, climbed the stairs to my office, and effed around playing games on the computer. "Not just any games, mind you, but word games for smart people." (Alec Baldwin's Captain Steve Rogers' voice. Look it up--it's hilarious.)
Then I decided to do my BP readings for the day. I'd finished the latest Abbi Waxman book, the day before, so resorted to singing the "Dear Perry" song-request theme to myself--I was amazed that I managed to remember it after sixty-some years--and reading the spec sheet on some commuter fenders for the bike, in order to relax.
That worked OK, but it was 7 AM before I finally felt like the sheep might be slowing down enough for me to count them. And then, before I headed downstairs again, I checked the day's weather forecast on a local news site. 10% chance of rain until 10 AM, 20% chance from 10 AM to noon, and 100% chance starting at noon. And more of the same on Tuesday.
So I set my alarm for 9 AM, figuring I might throw on my clothes, jump on the bike, and get in at least one ride outdoors to hold me over for the next two days.
I'd also done my inhaled meds, which takes some time, and decided to skip hydration and installation of dentures--which takes even more time--and figured that, with these shortcuts, I might j-u-u-u-st get my ride in under those 10% skies. Which I did.
When I got back, I was totally gassed, not having hydrated or eaten before I left. Luckily, while there were some wind gusts, it was nothing like the other day when I also made the mistake of extending my ride one block farther east and taking on that killer hill that the reservoir sits on.
That ride, uphill AND against a steady wind, had brought me to the very edge of not knowing if I was gonna be able to breathe hard enough and deep enough and fast enough to maintain consciousness. Which is a place I haven't been in a very long time, not since my commuter days on the 7th North Street hill on my way home.
But, in the end, I made it. Up 7th North--numerous times--back in the day, up past the reservoir a day or so ago, and, this morning, home just ahead of the rain. So, good call.
Hope everyone has a good day...
