Let's meet in Key West, in one of those dark, sleezy bars just off Duval Street. We'll drink to ol' Hem and smoke Cuban cigars and sneer at the tourists who never come in but stare from the doorway. Then we'll scribble some notes on beer-soaked napkins and say how lucky we are to have seen it this way.

And when they tell us we have to leave, that a monster storm is on its way, we'll look at them and say, "Fuck it, we're gonna stay, for one last beer..."

Hey. this is very evocative. Spare prose, but I can picture the dark sleazy bar, heavy with cigar smoke (choke choke choke).

And now I want a beer.

"Do it."

You know you want to.

One of the things going around ... different people from "Dr. Seuss" and "ex-pres Clinton" to "Oprah"

The answer to the question as per "Hemingway" was: "to die alone. In the rain."

Thought you'd be interested.

uh, been considering options. including leroi jones' "preface to a twenty volume suicide note." only mine would be a lot shorter...

so what volume are you on? or still on acknowledgements and preface??

Will there be a bibliography? Footnotes.

Sigh. Sounds like too much work....

I like Dorothy Parker's Suicide poem which explores methods and possible foul-ups, concluding with "I might as well live."

Then the other side of the road. And the rain. Which is not all bad. Helps clean things up, you know. Bad, Hem, bad. So messy...

Rain helps things to grow ...
alternatively,
and
in excess,
it destroys.

For years after his death, jim morrison was thought to be refering to iv injection of crystal methamphetamine when he wrote, "Before you slip into unconsciousness/ I'd like to have another kiss/ Another flashing chance at bliss...// The days are bright and filled with pain/ Enclose me in your gentle rain..." Turns out he was talking about one Mary Werbelow, his first love.

On the other hand, he was also fond of quoting William Blake's statement that, "The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom..." Apparently it can also lead to a Paris cemetary...

where he died alone. in the rain?

Hearing old songs with mature ears changes the meaning sometimes... but not the memories.

I have written things and come back to them finding a different insight... so I wonder

does the artist grok his/her creation?

welll, it was in the bathtub, actually, under circumstances which caused a feeding frenzy among conspiracy theorists of the day. myself, i'd probably fabricate some half-assed comparison with the death of jean-paul marat in the same city some two centuries earlier. you know, picture david's marat, one arm hanging out of the tub, pen still in hand. morrison's gonna kick my ass when he sees me in hell...

And who was "Charlotte" to Jim?

And perhaps Jim "has" a different perspective on things "now" -

can one spirit entity have physical effect on another as in "ass-kicking?"

He may've not been in the rain - but he was wet, huh?

short answer

From: [identity profile] olbuksings.livejournal.com
short answer would be long-time companion pam courson. she and her pet monkey, "curious h," were the only ones on the scene when morrison was discovered in the early hours of the morning.

of course, that's a stretch, but then the whole thing is a stretch. which is, i suppose, what makes it fun. for everyone except, you know... the monkey.

since the monkey rode in on the wench's back, you could probably say it was a monkey wench. wait, are we really THAT bad? yah, 'course we are...
