4 - The View from Space
Nov. 16th, 2013 01:30 pmUsing Google Maps, you can readily find a satellite image of Fremont Street and Station Road. I mention this because I've heard it said that, in viewing the implosion of a distant star, we're actually witnessing an event that happened millions of years ago.
Which makes me wonder if, given sufficient distance and intensity of light, I might chance to witness a moment or two of my late grandmother's life. And, if a moment or two, perhaps an hour or a day and, if that, the events of a particular day. A day in which she was the undeniable center of my childhood universe, my life.
The reality is that I could settle for much less than that and still have infinitely more than any of us, in our fondest dreams, is ever likely to have: the briefest glimpse of her sitting with my grandfather on their porch, speaking to a random neighbor out for a walk in the falling light and impending silence of a summer's evening...
