Late yesterday, the body of a six year old boy was brought to the morgue of a local hospital. Previously, two of his siblings had died in infancy.

Earlier in the day, the boy had been left in the care of his grandfather. That evening, another family member, returning home, found the boy in a bedroom, hung by his neck.

At another hospital, nearby, the boy's uncle received the news and was inconsolable in his grief. When he was able to talk, he said that the boy had missed his father.

Miles away, in a state penitentiary, the boy's father awaited the news. No one knew how to tell him that his last child, his son, his namesake, was dead.

on the news today "they" said the boy was imitating a wrestling move?? I don't know much about the "sport" but doubt it includes wrapping a belt around your neck and hanging from a door knob??

yes, that was my thought as well. and, as if to follow bad news with worse, i just read that a twelve year old, another kid from the south side, was found to have died by the same means...

the latest is that the two boys knew each other well. both were found in their homes, hung by belts looped over doorknobs. and both, the story goes, were imitating "professional wrestling moves." i fervently hope that someone, perhaps our well-regarded medical examiner, at least considers the possibility that shockingly young kids sometimes end their own lives.
