It was late afternoon, and I was returning to the hotel from one of several trips into the city. I had turned off on the side road where this hotel, among the many off of Carrier Circle and the NYS Thruway, is located and I saw this young girl in a bright red gown with a full skirt walking between two of the smaller hotels in an area where there are no sidewalks.

She was wearing matching red shoes with low heels which, nevertheless, made the walking treacherous, and she stopped several times to adjust the skirt which she seemed uncomfortable wearing. She was also wearing a white pearl necklace and carried one of those florist-made bouquets wrapped in a glittery, semi-transparent wrap.

I was driving quite slowly, after the sharp turn off of the main road, and had slowed further because here was this pedestrian walking quite unsteadily and quite close beside it. And after we passed, I watched in the mirror as she continued on and finally walked up the drive to the motel across the way from ours.

Later, I made up stories about where she was going and what she was doing there. Much like I have about myself, lately, traversing streets and highways and unpaved walkways where I never expected my life to be...

I see her. She feels very story worthy.

Yes, definitely a story there. Or maybe several. You have my permission to talk to her and use whatever you may find to illuminate that part of her life...
