Across the Universe

In Syracuse.com's local entertainment feature this morning, #4 on entertainment editor Katrina Tulloch's list is Dana Fuchs who starred as "Sexy Sadie" in Julie Taymore's "Across the Universe." She'll be appearing this week at one of our downtown dining and entertainment venues, Funk 'n' Waffles.

Having dispensed with the credits, I've just gotta say that "Across the Universe" is one of my favorite movies of all time. Not only does it bring its central character, Jude, to Vietnam-era America on an unprecedented wave of words and music from the Beatles' songbook, beautifully performed, but it also gives us a credible reincarnation of Janis Joplin in the character of Fuchs's Sadie.

To follow, then, is the trailer for Julie Taymore's "Across the Universe" which, as always, is best viewed full-screen on YouTube where it was originally posted. And to that I can only add, how do you like THEM Funk 'n' Waffles?

Kind of figured you might've seen it. I watched it with Jason and also sent a copy to Ana on the West Coast who watched it with her mom. It's just one of those movies that's great to share. Glad you and Anah have as well...

I need to rewatch bc it's been too long since seen, if I did see it all the way through. Some parts of the video I don't remember.

Dana Fuchs! I am on youtube listening to her sing Ella James "I'd Rather Go Blind,' among other songs. Thank you. Had not listened to her in too long, going to make my afternoon better w. her music as background.

Funk and Waffles sounds like a fun place. Makes me miss the days I could travel enough to go see local bands at the funky spots.

Glad you're enjoying Dana! Haven't watched AtU in a while either but it's on my list to do "one of these days." Guess I'd better check to see WHICH list it's on, just in case it's my "bucket" list, lol...

"Across the Universe" is on Amazon Prime and in the list but I fell asleep twice when trying to watch. But yes, enjoying Dana and her magnificent voice on youtube.
