You know, you're right. About the self-expression. I've heard it said, forever, that it's one of the things that artists do through their work. And I know that the fashion-conscious do it through the way they dress.
I've changed my mode of dress, lately, and was conscious of trying to express something else, some other person, maybe, that lived inside of me.
But I'm still not sure of who or what that person is. Or if he's real or not.
Maybe that's how we experiment sometimes, how we explore. I don't know, but I feel like it's on-going, feel more aware of it now than I have in a long time. Or maybe ever.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your new clothes. I think I'm enjoying mine.
Blue, my favorite color and suspenders are cool. The one thing I blow money on is clothes, mostly tie dye. I've got this plan to wear tie dye every day for a year so I have to stock up.
Hahaha, not sure I ever thought of suspenders as cool, but they always seemed more comfortable when I was bending over the fender of a car in my days as a mechanic. Also wouldn't tend to scratch the finish the way a belt buckle would.
(For a while, I wore a belt with the buckle off to one side, which also solved the problem. But I started doing that when I was a kid, back in the '50s. When someone asked me why, I'd said I dunno, I just think it looks cool.
To which my interrogator replied, well, musicians wear them that way so they don't scratch the backs of their guitars--I was hanging out with a lot of musicians in those days. Fascinating, huh? You can probably tell that I need to get out more, lol.)
I'll bet you look great in your tie dye. One of my coolest memories, from back in the day, was driving down the winding lane to the commune and suddenly seeing, up ahead, the old carriage house with its tie-dyed sunrise on a king-size bed sheet strung between the eaves on its upper storey. (I like the way the Brits spell "storey" because it means, specifically, part of a building.)
BTW, you'd LOVE the blue I'm painting the wood valence I've built to hang the carpet behind the target box in the basement. My daughter picked it out when they were painting the shutters on the house. It's a deep, but somehow vibrant blue, which has a deep red pigment in it which I saw before I stirred it. It almost matches the carpet AND it was free, lol...
Back in the old hippie days suspenders were common enough and I can't or don't want to leave those days behind. I love overalls too, but could never wear them cause my boobs are too big. TMI?
If it wasn't so messy, I'd make some of my own, though there would surely be a relearning process. YouTube has some vids on how to make Mandalas which was a well guarded secret among Deadheads back when I was selling dyes. That might provide inspiration.
I didn't know about the off center belt buckle, got to ask my daughter if her guy does that.
That BLUE sounds gorgeous. So many years of working with dyes showed me how adding a little bit of contrast color can really make a difference, make the original deep and rich. Or as sometimes happened turn it into something that resembled mud lol.
And actually your stories and insights are fascinating enough to keep me coming back for more.
