5/4 = 1-1/4
Jul. 10th, 2018 12:42 pmThat's right. My once mathaphobic self has become a math whiz in its old age.
IDK if this is a slightly delayed aftereffect of the year I spent as a volunteer TA in my grandson's second grade classroom--after which I told his teacher that I could finally pass grade 2 math--or what. The brain does work in mysterious ways, ya know.
But, if that's the case, "Thanks, Elana!" My coming in early each day, to catch her math lessons, has paid a wholly unexpected dividend. (I owe her the "thanks," anyway. She's a wonderful teacher, as well as a lovely person.)
In any event, I was able to quickly and accurately perform the above calculation--in my head, no less--as I completed the 4th lap of my fitness walk and was thereby able to determine that, if I added one additional quarter to my daily walk, I would be walking one and a quarter miles today.
Which also left me sufficient time to conclude, before I fully committed to this drastic uptick in my routine, that if I happened to come out of it physically and emotionally intact, I could probably plan on doing it on a daily basis.
Which would mean that, instead of walking 7 miles over the course of one week, I'd be adding 7 quarters of a mile which would be 7-7/4 or... hmm... I think I have a pencil here, somewhere...
Please, no one mention this to Elana. K?
