A Good Day

Actually had quite a good day, yesterday, especially given it was my first day back after being knocked out of my daily routine--for the better part of a week--by the flu shot and an ear infection.

I did my laundry, cleaned up the kitchen a bit, did some bike maintenance, added a small USB charging station in the basement, and got my two bike rides in.

Also printed out a user manual I found on the internet for the air purifier I'd bought for my grandson a year ago and dropped that off at his mom's, along with the two filters and UV bulb he needed to replace in it.

Which meant that he had to talk to me--and pretend to be interested--for a few minutes as well, lol.

This morning, it's been raining so I may not get to ride outdoors but I've been preparing mentally and logistically for the inevitable transition to indoor, stationary bike training.

And later today I think I'm gonna try the Coq-a-Vin recipe I found for the Instant Pot. Which means I'm gonna have to pick up another bottle of the Pinot Noir that I use for cooking. And maybe a bit of luck to make this the first decent meal I've made in the damn thing.

Back in the day, when Helen was working her 12-hour nights at the hospital and I was doing the cooking for our family of 6, I had no problem--in fact enjoyed--incorporating new technologies into the kitchen. In fact, my son paid me a rare compliment recently when he said we'd always had good meals.

So, I dunno. I've got a stack of recipe books, plus access to the internet, and maybe just need to find the right one. Although it's legitimately complicated, these days, by trying to find flavorful, decently-textured, low-sodium ones.

Anyway, wish me luck. I hate to waste a good wine on bad cuisine...

Glad to hear you are back in the swing of things. How did the Coq-a-Vin turn out?

Hmmm.. my night was like that too, must be a thing. Admittedly, I've neither made nor even eaten Coq-a-Vin so you unless you really screw it up you could fool me. BTW Ina Garten puts cognac in hers as well as the wine. It's starting to sound like something I should try and some creme brulee for dessert.

Nothing like Coq-au-Vin as the weather draws in! How did it turn out?
