Finished the bicycle service tool this afternoon and it came out great! It works much better than the two previous designs and infinitely better than that guy's belt, or whatever it was.

I haven't actually used it yet, but it's easy to install, fits well, and protects the finish of the frame where it's mounted. And it's rock-solid which is exactly what I was looking for.

My next project, along with getting the grandkids started on the tool display board for the workshop, will be to take the cranks off the bike, grease the spindles where the crank arms mount, and then retorque to see if I can get rid of that annoying "clunking" as the pedals rotate.

(You can't really hear it, or see any play in the crank arms, but that's the sound it would make if you could hear it instead of just feeling it in your feet. Weird, I know.)

The problem started after I replaced what I thought was a bad bottom bracket (the sealed spindle and bearing unit that the pedal cranks attach to).

After torqueing the bottom bracket to specs, I installed the cranks--without grease, as specified in the Park Tool Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair--and torqued them to spec as well.

After "feeling the noise," I continued reading to where they said, basically, that if you have this problem with the cranks, after installing per these instructions, remove again, grease, and reinstall. I guess I'm wondering why you wouldn't just do that in the first place.

But that's what started me on this whole crank holder tool project in the first place. Which has been fun, but now I've gotta go ahead and hopefully solve the actual problem.
