Oh, No

Decided I would sit in bed tonight and begin reading Ronnie Spector's memoir, Be My Baby.

The copy I have is the newly-published 2022 edition, hardbound, and as I was opening it I casually scanned the notes on the jacket.

And learned that Ronnie Spector had died on January 12th of this year.

I don't know why I hadn't realized this but, in any case, it really rocked me back for a minute.

So I'm not gonna start my reading tonight. I need some time to process this, to come to terms with what feels like a profoundly altered perspective.

I'm not sure if I can explain, or even understand, why that is.

I just know that I need to do this...

I did know that. But perhaps you get a little sick of being beaten about the head and neck with 'news' that consists of talk about bombings, bullying and possible nuclear war.

All of that, for sure. I seldom watch/listen to the news anymore for that reason.

The other side of this, apropos of what you were saying the other day about certain memoirs/autobios, there's the immediate spector (See what I did there? Of course you do, lol.) of that over-the-top melodrama of messy, celebrity lives.

And, of those, I've quite gotten my fill, having watched a few YT clips of the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard debacle. Yuck!

Which now puts the future of what I thought might be my "rescue read" in doubt...
