thisnewdayAt 78 years of age, I'm still a beginner at everything I've ever done.
How did that happen?
The answer is that it didn't just happen.
I made it happen.
That was my choice in the way that I lived my life.
Always wanting to try new things. To refresh myself. To become something different and new.
Now I'm old. Now I understand that this was inevitable.
That while I was focused on becoming something new, I was becoming old.
And now, that's all I am.
Something old that sometimes still wishes it could become something new again.
And which, at other times, no longer cares...

ADDENDUM
My sincere apologies for having framed this in a way that suggested that it was my birthday.
It was not my birthday, but I am, in fact, 78 years old as of a couple of months ago. And have been feeling every day, minute, and second of that since... forever, it seems.
Mea culpas aside, I'm deeply touched and sincerely grateful to my LJ/DW friends who left birthday wishes on my digital doorstep.
Thank you, I love you all, and wish all of you the best...
