Weather Report
Feb. 27th, 2024 02:23 pmIt's now 70-degrees F. and sunny in Syracuse.
Which is fine, except that it's the 27th day of February. In Syracuse.
And this is not normal weather for this place/time of year.
Then, in the next day or so, temps are forecast to drop back into the teens, with an expectation of snow.
So, while I don't love snow, I also don't like crazy.
Have a good day, I guess...

Date: 2024-02-28 10:16 pm (UTC)We're in an area that is in a valley on a river... weather has always been odd compared to non-valley, non-river areas. I grew up mid state in Birmingham, we had milder winters but upper AL but there was snow and cold. We needed winter coats.
Living outside Huntsville for 43 years now, it was a big adjustment. More snow, colder temps, but some years no snow and just cold. Bitter wind coming off the water.
We had an ice storm for almost a whole week, the area covered in frozen rain that would freeze and refreeze - no real snow. I walked in the freezing rain and it was not pleasant - I'd bundled and gone out thinking it was sleet but nope and there was a short break in the drizzle. Just a steady falling of frozen crystals all day long and into the night. Woke up to inches of ice everywhere. The city basically shuts down, it's too dangerous to drive. Snow shuts us down, it's so seldom there's no snow equipment. Some areas like the interstate bridges get bags of sand and salt put out but it's a couple of guys on the back of a utility truck.
The next week it was warm in the low 60's. We had freezing temps at night and early morning, Mike leaves for work at a little past 5:30 and he had to bundle but afternoons he didn't want to wear a coat and could wear a sweat shirt or jacket. Our maple trees are budding out, other bushes, the neighbor down the street has a decorative cherry tree and I can see pink blooms. Bulbs coming up - a lot of daffidils but it's about time for bulbs.
I was called it False Spring and Faux Spring bc there's always cold weather coming and March is often our harshest month. Now I hear from friends in the North w. warmer temps and all as it's growing. My friend in MIssouri has snow today. Like us she's been having warm temps, things budding, etc, and back to freezing cold.
Fat tires! I saw a neighbor riding a bike w. this ridicously oversized tires. I mean cartoon size! Google brought up fat tires but the ones I saw looked maybe larger and they were white. Or maybe just the shock of seeing such large tires made my brain think they were larger.
I thought of you when I saw him bc you ride, I'm sure you know about them but they were a surprise to me.
