Beloved Colts of Dubuque did not make the cut at the afternoon session of the DCI Southwestern Championships in Austin, Texas on Friday. They were at the very top of the second tier and only missed the cut by .5 percentage points. They are now scoring consistently in the mid- to upper seventies and improving with each show. However, the top three corps broke the nineties at the evening show which is a new record.
Executive Director Greg Orwoll immediately mapped out their strategy to regain momentum for the championships in Bloomington, Indiana. They will continue "cleaning" the show, will eliminate some high risk/ no reward movements in the program, and have developed a travel plan to include additional practice opportunities in the run-up to Bloomington.
On Saturday night, when they would've been in the evening show, they practiced until midnight. The next day, Sunday, the corps slept in until 10 AM followed by a "free day" in Austin. Then back on the bus for the long ride overnight to their next destination. Their second-to-last show before Bloomington will be in Buffalo, NY. Sure wish I could make it to see them, but that kind of travel is simply not possible for me...
