This past Saturday, in his last game of the outdoor soccer season, Jason scored 4 goals and had 1 assist. It was a substitute coach who finally saw fit to start him at forward where he passed well, penetrated well, and gave his team the scoring punch they've so long been lacking.

Tomorrow, he plays in the Sports Center's 6th annual Columbus Day Tournament, and it'll be interesting to see how that goes. I think he's going to be coached by someone from an area community college who's supposed to be taking over the team for the indoor season. Unfortunately, from what I've gathered from other parents, he doesn't appear to be the answer to this team's coaching needs either.

Like the others we've had, he seems to think that coaching means shuffling players in and out of the game, rather than actually directing play from the sidelines. And although he's been successful in the past, his college teams have won only two games in the past two seasons. Not really what we've been hoping for.

So Jason and I have been doing a bit of looking around at other programs and have identified one that might be a good fit. For starters, they've hammered us in just about every game we've played against them. I've also gotten some very positive feedback from the mother of a former teammate who went to this program earlier in the year.

I guess the last straw for me was a couple of weeks ago when the director of our program, obviously in denial with regard to the effects of the "coaching carousel" our kids have been subjected to over the past year, offered to provide the names and phone numbers of competing programs if we weren't happy with what we've had at the Sports Center.

So, although I'm a bit sad about parting ways with some very nice parents and some really talented kids, I've decided we can just as well find those names and numbers on our own, thanks very much. So that what we thought was the last game of Jason's outdoor season may in fact have been his last as a member of his current team...
