thisnewdayIn 1999, Lawrence Ferlinghetti was appointed the first poet laureate of San Francisco.
In his acceptance speech, he quoted a graffito he'd seen on the wall at Michael McClure's California College of Arts and Crafts. It said,
"You're so minimal."
