Standing in a Room
May. 20th, 2015 08:51 amI'm standing in a room, I suppose it could be any of the rooms, in Jay Gatsby's Long Island mansion.
I've gotten here by way of Sarah Churchwell's book, her first, entitled Careless People: Murder, Mayhem, and the Invention of The Great Gatsby. It focuses, in a wholly unique way, on the social, cultural, historical milieu which was both the source and, in a sense, the product of Scott Fitzgerald's life and work.
So I'm standing in a room, filled with all the dreams and splendor and idealism and disillusion of Fitzgerald's creation, and totally loving what she's done with it...
