I just did a LITTLE bit of shoveling in my driveway. The outdoor temp has reached 45-degrees, this afternoon, the snow and ice are melting, and I wanted to help it along.
The stuff I shoveled was pretty heavy, due to the high moisture content, but I used a smaller shovel and was very careful about what I was doing. No full shovels, no turning with heavy loads, no putting my shoulder into breaking up the still-frozen ridges where the plow truck had tracked through.
But now I've got those "hot flashes" that I sometimes get in my left shoulder. They'd actually cleared up, for a month or two, until I started lifting and pushing the snow again. Even my "geriatric workouts" didn't seem to cause any problems, but now they're back.
So, I'm gonna do what any sane and sensible senior would do, I'm gonna do a little prep work in the basement for setting up my shooting range and then I'm gonna work out.
If you don't hear from me again, it might just be that this wasn't the thing to do, lol...

Date: 2018-01-24 04:55 am (UTC)The feeling of "heat" starts near the back of my left shoulder and then travels downward along the front surface of the bicep and then disappears before it reaches the inner elbow. I'm not really worried about it, just annoyed.
On the subject of guns and irresponsible people who shouldn't have them, my son "appropriated" all the air guns I'd bought for myself and the kids, primarily for the two older daughters, years ago. Probably pawned them for... well, we won't get into that.
Most of them were lower-end Daisy and Crossmans, although still quite serviceable. But what I'm looking at now are several models made in Spain by Gamo. They're a step up from the coiled spring, Co2, or pump-up powered ones we've had in the past and, in .22 cal. can be used in hunting small game, if necessary.
The trick is to find one that has the right weight, trigger-pull, and cocking effort for my daughter who is going to be shooting with me. I also have grandkids coming from Cali, a few months from now, who will be interested in this too, so I may get something different for them.
Whatever the case, they're gonna be closely supervised although I don't have to worry as much about them because their mom and dad both respect firearms and have passed that on to their kids.
I'm really sorry to hear about the twins. It's truly disturbing what kids are getting into these days, much of it fueled, I think, by the idiocy that is so prevalent, and so easily-accessible, on the internet.
It's shocking to think that, a generation or so ago, kids were actually allowed to bring their guns to school for rifle club. Can't begin to imagine that now.
Hope everyone stays safe and that you get some better weather down your way...
