Good Enough...
Jul. 29th, 2018 07:36 pm...is not a standard that I've readily accepted for most of my life. Much of that time, the work that I was doing simply wouldn't allow for loose tolerances. Whether assembling an automotive engine or submitting roof truss designs to the Army Corps of Engineers, it would've been unthinkable.
Besides, that's simply not how I'm wired. On some projects, it does mean that you take a little more time. But when approaching the wet-ass moment--as when walking into the field office at Ft. Drum with designs for several hundred thousand worth of base housing units--my boss knew he didn't have to worry.
These days, however, the standard seems to have slipped a bit. In fact, as I was putting my basement airgun range back together after having the glass block windows put in, I think I said it at least three times. And that was just this afternoon.
Admittedly, two of those times were when I was bent nearly double installing new casters on the bottom of the target box and my body was screaming, "That's enough, that's enough." But even so, it's unaccustomed territory for me.
When I was finished, it did look pretty good and I was able to walk up the basement stairs totally unassisted. Which, in itself, has to count for something.
Actually, it counts for a lot, these days. It is, after all, a time when I've gotten in the habit of saying, "Thank you," on every occasion when I've successfully drawn a fully-satisfying breath.
Don't know who I'm saying it to, but it does feel like "bonus time," which so many people that I'd known over the years would never experience. Like more than sixty of my high school classmates--out of a graduating class of about 460.
So, I dunno, whatever you want to call it, maybe this is the time when it's OK to say that a few things in this life are "good enough..."

Date: 2018-07-31 02:31 pm (UTC)I'd been kind of a "fitness freak" my whole life and the P/T folks scripted daily workouts for my recovery--including many exercises which I'd done in the past and which would still be useful but had to be adapted to new circumstances.
And so I went with it, experienced good recoveries, and continue doing them to this day...

Date: 2018-07-31 06:56 pm (UTC)After that I have times when I formally exercise, but gardening keeps me going. I used to walk with a friend and the miles we covered were so filled with chatter time didn't exist. Pause for more memories.......> now some days I walk up the road.
I, too, use my PT exercises often. They help.
I need to dance more often. Maybe I'll go to the Jerry Garcia birthday bash tomorrow. Erin offered to take me.

Date: 2018-07-31 07:48 pm (UTC)And I totally agree that walking alone isn't much fun, especially if you're doing it indoors on a treadmill, as many of us around here will be in a couple of months.
Hope you do go to the Jerry Garcia bash tomorrow and that you and your daughter have an absolute blast!
