The good news is that, when I returned home from registering at the board of elections this afternoon, I was greeted by the smiley Amazon logo perched atop my mailbox.

Even better, when I opened it, I found that my two recent orders had been combined. The first one was for Michael Cunningham's The Hours and the Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, and Nichole Kidman movie by the same title. Yayyyyy!

The second was for an Irwin "Lock'n'Load" quick-change extension for my portable drill. Here, upon closer inspection, the mood darkens, dense fall clouds pass in front of the sun, Donald Trump's tiny hand hovers over the nuclear launch button.

Oh, all right, everything but the end-of-civilization-as-we-know-it one. The L'n'L extension will fit my drill but is too big for all the bits I have. Wah, wah, waaaaaaaaah!

(Just to clarify, it's spilt beer, unobtainable beer, AND screwed-up tool orders--inside joke, you know who you are.)

So the score, down on the soccer pitch, is Bibliophiles 2, Manly Motorheads nuttin.'

(I know, the Brits would say "nil" but, I'm tellin' ya, a motorhead says "nuttin.'")

Anyway, I'm just gonna dry my eyes, pour a glass of this new Scotch ale that I'm trying out, and read a chapter or two of The Hours.

Because, you know, that's what a manly man does...
