The I-citizen: It's Not Just About U
Jun. 24th, 2007 03:43 amA few years ago, before I'd found Night Writers or Writers' Row or the boulevard writers' group, there were some really good discussion groups on the Internet. And while there were a few annoyances, the usual quota of flamers and ego-trippers and assorted wannabes (like myself, I s'pose), there were also effective filters to help manage them.
When I started looking for similar online discussions, recently, the proliferation of such groups was truly amazing. Unfortunately, even the most highly recommended of them were so totally overrun by spammers as to be virtually useless. The result, I guess, of having accomplished near-universal access without similar advancements in our ideas about internet citizenship...
